OMG, omg, omg. I can’t believe the day is finally here. The day I launch my luxury ELIZABETH SUTTON LEATHER ACCESSORIES COLLECTION with bags and bag straps for women. I have been developing this bag and belt leather collection for over a year now, and have poured more time, money, hard work, heart and soul into this than I have into any other endeavor in my life.
I will start with is this: My Fall Collection Bible is a testament to DESIGN INTEGRITY. It is a testament to hard work, team work, investment, talent, love, passion, time, mistakes, learning, fires, decision-making, execution, deadlines, absolute beauty, uniqueness, luxury, and sophistication. It is a fashion Bible created straight out of an accident, almost literally.
It is something that I didn’t know I was so passionate about until pretty much the end of the process, and even now, as I realize I’ve created something that nobody else has, not even what society deems as the ‘best’ brands.
Today I officially launch my pre-sale luxury genuine leather handbags and leather bag straps! I feel an immense sense of pride, something that does not come easy for me from within. I figured this all out myself. Of course I have a team and of course I have mentors who I depend on for both help and guidance, but at the end of the day, this was me. I steer the ship. The immense pressure, finding a trustworthy and quality atelier, the tireless nights designing, editing, creating 3D molds, investing in metal progressive molds that took forever and a ton of dollars to perfect, sourcing leather from Italy, custom dying and embossing the material in Mexico, waiting months upon months for everything to really come together, flying overseas with my team on binge workaholic trips to perfect and finalize it all. All things I had never done before. Finally- it is here the Elizabeth Sutton leather accessories collection.
What I did was learn as I went. As a straight newbie to the process of launching my own leather collection, I had no choice but to learn on the fly, with the help of honestly only 3 people (and some good friends for emotional support). My graphic designer, Rachel, who sat by my side making edits upon edits upon edits upon edits and flew with me back and forth multiple times to my atelier in Mexico City. Easily hundreds of nights past 1am working. Rea, my right hand, who helped me with every business and sales decision, sizing and quantity decision, distribution centers, liaising with my digital team in Serbia and securing my new factory for packaging, contracts, you name it. And lastly, Rob, the owner of the incredible atelier in Mexico City which is run by the loveliest family for 4 generations, people who have spent their entire lives creating leather products and have been in business for 47 years. They told me it was their most complex production ever, as well as their favorite.
I will shout out my mentors: Bari Erber – thank you for letting me see what goes on in your hectic successful business and for helping me with any questions I had. My dear friend Andrew Fox, a serial entrepreneur, who continues to help encourage my workaholic behavior because it takes a special breed to sustain the energy to keep going and going and going. My sales mentor – Gina Paoloni – who encouraged me to develop an e-commerce, digital strategy and helped me ‘see’ the numbers.
In short – I DID IT! I am gradually making my dreams come true one day at a time!
I can go on and on about this amazing venture of mine, so stay tuned for part 2 of my leather collection post in which I will talk about lessons learned.
