Szechuan Spicy Chicken with Sesame

Asian food is one of my favorites. Fried noodles, egg veggie rice, Szechuan spicy chicken, sweet and sour pork, these dishes are just so tasty. As I am spending extra time on social media, I am inspired by many accounts which focus on recipes and cooking. This Coronavirus quarantine is forcing me to be extra creative with the food I make. Today I prepared Szechuan spicy chicken, a recipe which I found on an account of a friend of mine @mealinganddealing. I added a little twist though and the results were spectacular. Szechuan spicy chicken paired with broccoli and veggie fried rice, so delicious. The best part about this dish is that unlike Chinese food from most restaurants, it is not filled with excess and unnecessary oil and fat. As lean as Chinese food can get.

Ingredients
Szechuan chicken
– 2 lbs. chicken breast, cut into strips
– 1 Tsp. salt and pepper
– 1 Tsp. cornstarch
– 2 cloves fresh garlic, crushed
– 1 Tsp. fresh Szechuan peppercorn, crushed
– 1 Tbsp. sweet chili sauce
Szechuan spicy chicken sauce
– ⅔ cup duck sauce
– 1 Tbsp. fresh ginger, finely chopped
– 1 Tsp. fresh Szechuan peppercorn, crushed
– ¼ cup red hot pepper sauce
– ¼ cup Teriyaki sauce
– ¼ cup KIKKOMAN soy sauce
– ¼ cup brown sugar

Directions
Cut chicken breast into strips and season with: salt, pepper, cornstarch, fresh garlic, fresh Szechuan peppercorn and a drop of sweet chilli sauce. Sautée the seasoned chicken on a medium heat. While the chicken is being sautéed, on a low heat stir the duck sauce, fresh ginger, fresh Szechuan peppercorn, hot sauce, teriyaki, soy sauce and brown sugar until it begins to sizzle. Pour sauce over the sautéed chicken, top it off with sesame seeds and fresh chopped scallions for presentation.

Tip: Adjust the spiciness of your dish. For a hotter Szechuan Spicy Chicken flavor, add more chilly sauce or make the dish completely kid friendly and omit the chilly sauce completely.
